EXHIBITION “NEXT TO THE CELESTIALS”
About the event
The exhibition “Next to the Celestials” shows the work of young regional artists, in which the irony continues with a look into the depths of history.
Krasnodar artist Lyudmila Baronina in her works uses mythological motifs, correlating with modernity. “The source of eternal youth” is the desire to remain eternally young, but to use this youth at parties until you drop off and at the same time feel divine, hugging with Poseidon.
Ivan Tuzov's relations with the heroes of the past are also familiar: he remembers the leaders of the Soviet people in early childhood, in the same context as cartoons: hence the two mutating Bambi, “Leninenok and Stalinenok”, and a case in the dressing room, where the leaders show each other behind the screen another hammer and sickle, measuring, who has more. Aces does not forget about the tragic moments of history, but he and the macabre turn into a computer game, however, monumental in a mosaic.
Alexei Krutkin created a virtual hero, Chaika Stas, an anarchist hooligan with ecological inclinations, who became the unofficial symbol of the city of Vladivostok. Krutkin, like a seagull, collects in the garbage the fragments of civilizations that crashed at the edge of the country into a mosaic where the Cheburashka and the plastic soldier enter into relations with Superman, Barbie and Ninja Turtles. This is a kind of archeology of the future, as in the song of Ilya Lagutenko “Perhaps they will dig it out after a thousand years, in bows, chewing gum and fragments of coins”. Artists are archiving modernity, because we need to understand it now, not waiting until “cleaner times come”.
The narts and heroic ancestors by Anna Kabisova from Vladikavkaz repeat their legendary mistakes in the form of our contemporaries, but the ancient gods were not alien to human passions. Youth does not avoid and is not afraid of antiquity, height or power. Nothing happens too much, just like meeting with the gods around the pool.
