The BIG CITY LIFE project, organized by ARTIS PROJECT, is dedicated to the manysideness of the urban environment, its internal and external processes, as well as to habitants who are co-creators on the one hand and products of this environment on the other.
Man gave metropolis an independent life and begot a creature which lives according to its own laws and already brought man under its control.
The big city is like a melting pot, in which cultural, social, political, architectural and other "ingredients" are mixed. This complexity is unique and unique at each stage of its “melting”. Moscow is not the same city now as it was 100 years ago. The life of a metropolis, its formation and development is like a magical metamorphosis, reflecting everything in society.
The polyphony of urban resources and subcultures is similar to the endless happening; the whole urban environment is the scenery for which. Many small performances involving the most diverse groups of people merge into one big event, which can be called “BIG CITY LIFE”.
Restaurant visitors, street vendors, subway drivers, beggars, office workers, hospital patients ... All of them are participants of the eternal happening, playing the main, then the secondary role - and there is a many-sided face of the metropolis. His face - the face of each of us.
Reflection of the manysideness of a big city through art is the main idea of the BIG CITY LIFE project. Artists do not just study the world around them, they fix it, leaving a legacy of visual “documentation” for descendants. The life of the city, its philosophy, architecture, atmosphere is revealed by young authors - Julia Malinina, Sasha Sokolova, Julia Vergazova, Andrei Syaylev, Olga Akulina, Mila Gavrilova.
Mila Gavrilova and Sasha Sokolova show residents of the metropolis in their usual everyday activities, giving the image of the city through its everyday landscapes. However, Gavrilova demonstrates the Moscow context to the viewer, and Sokolova shows the sultry streets of Barcelona.
Julia Malinina and Olga Akulina expressively shows their impressions of the visited cities. At the same time, one of the main tools is color in works by Julia Malinina, while Akulina has her expressive technique. Different views also serve as inspiration for artists: Malinina is an adept of industrial culture, Akulina tries to convey her mood using familiar locations.
Andrei Syaylev and Julia Vergazova deconstruct the city, sorting it out into various components and redefining the role of structural elements. At Vergasov There are shopping centers and neon signs at Vergasova and brickwork at Saylev.
The exhibition presents a variety of city views and points of view on its existence: the city as a collision of different contexts, the city as a process of association, the city as a habitat. Choose your city and explore it with us!
